About the Inventor

Adette has a Bachelor's degree in Biology from 

The University of New Mexico with an emphasis in Ornithology.

She worked professionally performing an educational bird show; working extensively with raptors (birds of prey). 

Adette has a long (22 year) professional background in animal care.  

She invented The Hawk Star Pet Protection Vest through her deep love and compassion for animals, their health, and their safety. 

She has 20+ years experience in professional pet care

as well as 12 years of animal rescue. 

She ran I Once Was Lost Animal Advocacy where she saved close to 500 dogs, most of whom were abandoned and/or homeless

the others from high kill shelters, several cats and countless dogs and cats by promoting spay/neuter awareness.  

She also actively participated in helping Austin,Texas become the largest No-Kill city in the nation by chairing the Public Awareness Committee.

When outside with a rescue litter of puppies a hawk swooped down and tried to grab one of the puppies. Adette was stunned that this could happen and thought of it often. 

A few years later while walking a small dog she once again had the idea that this small dog was at risk from birds of prey.  She started thinking about how she could avoid this. She thought about how some gardeners use music cd's hanging in their garden to frighten birds away. While on this walk, she noticed a hawk sitting on a limb that stretched across her path.

On the way back, she has a brilliant idea...this idea was

THE HAWK STAR PET PROTECTION VEST!

Interesting note: when she returned to the rescue building

a hawk feather was sitting in front of the door.  

Adette took this as a sign she was onto something great!!

Achieving the goal of obtaining not one but TWO United States Patents was a tremendous milestone! 

However, the biggest goal is to protect every single small dog from birds of prey! Once pet owners learn about The Hawk Star, and that it is based on science, the rest is easy..hit the "order" button!  

Getting the word out there is the challenge.

Once Adette thought of The Hawk Star Pet Protection Vest,

the first step was to connect with professionals to ensure  this was an effective deterrent to protect small dogs.

First, she called Tom Smylie, one of the words leading bird of prey experts.  He thought the idea was outstanding and could definitely work. 

The next step was to test The Hawk Star with a bird of prey.  

She hired a falconer and tested the material. The falconer told her no matter what he put on his lure, his bird trusted him and she would hit (grab) the lure. Much to his surprise she refused the lure when it had The Hawk Star material on it!
